What is The Daily Refrain?

The Daily Refrain started as a way to share my meal planner for busy people with the world. As a graphic designer, I pride myself on solving problems and making things look good in the process, and I deeply associated that with living the busy life of a working mother.

DAILY

This refers to the frequency of living the daily life. Things that we do everyday become our routine, and I think we naturally are creatures of habit. The daily cup of coffee, a workout, the load of laundry, the commute to work, our meals, and the wind-down at the end of the day, become part of our rhythm.

REFRAIN

This word has two main meanings: a repeated part of a song, and to say no or abstain. Both of these meanings play into living The Daily Refrain. Taking the repetitive parts of your day and adding some sparkle makes it sing, and it can be comforting and fun. The rituals give us something to look forward to, and even if it’s mundane as making lunch for your kids, or washing dishes, or choosing your outfit, we can find ways to make it fun.

We all have a lot of pressure to get things done, and to be excellent in doing them. But sometimes we need to maintain some peace and say no. Instead of signing up for every volunteer opportunity, you can just choose the one that matters most. You don’t have to make homemade brownies for the bake sale — you can just pick up some on the way home from the grocery store. Be okay with having leftovers for dinner, or skipping out on meet-up with someone you might not be called to develop a relationship with. You can’t physically do everything, so it’s okay to say no and have a day at home to enjoy a movie with your family, and not attend 3 birthday parties in one day.

Find a way to make your daily routine easy. Get organized and relish in a routine and build a system that works for you. Say no to something and give yourself a break. Enjoy little moments in your day and look for vacation vibes. Celebrate little moments, and big wins. Find your Daily Refrain, and you can sing, dance, get stuff done, and find peace and accomplishment.

Cheers!
