Vacation Vibes
Why do we love vacations so much?
For me, it’s the whole mindset and overall feeling of the vacation. Ever notice how you spend money differently? That $10 coffee at the airport or the $20 dinner out is no big deal because you’re on vacation. You sit and enjoy a fancy drink on a patio and people watch or enjoy a view of the lake. You sleep in, and have a lazy morning, or explore cute shops and diners in a small town square. You take a moment to enjoy the flowers and sunsets and relax without worrying about your email box, or the chores you need to do. If you’re a parent, you might enjoy a conversation with your kid without trying to unload dishes, and you might play tag on the lawn with them, or do a cannonball into the pool (and not worry about your hair getting wet.)
Take all those little moments that makes you enjoy your vacation, and find them in your daily routine. The other day, I enjoyed an iced coffee and muffin at a cute local coffee shop and my friend and I enjoyed catching up and watching my little one play with leaves and rocks. It was peaceful and such a nice break from the grind. Today I took some time off from work and got a massage, then walked to get a smoothie and looked at the garden section of the grocery store. My husband and I even took a Friday morning while the kids were at school to have brunch at a new place we’ve been meaning to check out. The library we visited has this epic tree swing and it was fun to just take 5 minutesto swing and look up into the trees.
Find your little vacation vibes. Have coffee with a friend and don’t look at your phone. Go screen-free one night and just have a hot mug of tea and read a book. Treat yourself to a smoothie and window shop. Sit on a patio and people watch. These moments of rest and “white space” and the feeling of being on vacation can be a part of your daily refrain — as long as you stop to smell the roses. (and the brunch.)
Cheers!
